Available Opportunities

We welcome applications from prospective graduate students, and undergraduate students. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply ; however, Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents of Canada will be given priority. Please contact Dr. Samanfar for opportunities.

 

Prospective graduate student:

  • Carleton University offers both MSc and PhD programs in Biology. Available positions:

    • Graduate studentships (Master, MSc) in Soybean-SCN host-pathogen interactions (genomics and computational biology analysis) with specific focus on  novel gene discovery and allele-specific marker developments.

    • Graduate studentships (PhD) in soybean functional genomics and transcriptomics (RNA-sequencing) with specific focus on seed protein content, QTL mining, novel gene discovery and allele-specific marker developments.

 

Prospective undergraduate student:

  • COOP students

  • Full-time summer research opportunities are available usually via funding such as NSERC-Undergraduate Summer Research Award  or Dean’s Summer Research Internship and etc.

  • Carleton undergraduate’s research thesis projects (BIOL4908). You may need to discuss potential opportunities for 4908 thesis projects with Dr. Samanfar no later than the fall semester of your 3rd year of undergraduate studies. Lab spots usually fill up about a year ahead of starting.

 

A successful applicant should have a general background in molecular genetics, plant molecular biology and interest in soybean omics (genomics, proteomics and transcriptomics). Please contact us with any questions either by contacting Dr. Samanfar or apply through our Contact page.
